Spring Round Up Live Show

Recently I was able to attend a live show in my local area where I showed in Performance for the first time, which seems like it would be a big thing for a tackmaker. Overall, I was happy with how I did in the show and I had a lot of fun, my main goal was to enter every Performance class which was accomplished. A huge bonus was that I was able to place in every class and won 1st in Costume and 2nd in English Pleasure. Here are some photos of my entries!

NMTM 2018 and more

This month has been sort of a catch-up month here at Yellow Bird Acres- catching up with the Model Horse Costume Challenge and the official start to National Model Tack Month. So, the workbench has kept warm and I have some pictures to show so enjoy!

The costume challenge has been fairly interesting for me as this is the first costume I have made. The tassels and cowries were the scariest parts but I found both went together well.

The halter was made using a pattern usually used with paracord commonly referred to as trilobite.

Saddle was sculpted using Super Sculpy.

This is my National Model Tack Month challenge, a classic scale cutback saddle set.

Last but not least, I am still chipping away to finish my Witcher 3 set, the bridle will be made with a leather armor mask. After the bridle is complete, the breastcollar and a griffin head will be sculpted to finish it off.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody! It seems everyone is happy to say goodbye to 2017 and welcome 2018. We are pretty happy about it because we just launched our new website!

Check it out at yellowbirdacres.com

We have many plans in the works for 2018 (including some tack tutorials!) and can't wait to get creative. Thanks to all the friends of Yellow Bird Acres who have supported us over the last year!

Yellow Bird Acres update

So, what exactly has been going on at Yellow Bird Acres lately? Lots of tackmaking and working mostly. We have had a great winter/spring this year with lots of beautiful weather so I have been trying to enjoy it as much as possible. Work at the track is going great and I was lucky enough to participate in a free workshop to get closer to the harness horses. I don't have any pics of my adventure through the barns but I was able to learn a lot more about the tack used in harness racing. I plan to make a set soon.

Another exciting thing that happened was that I bought a yearling this spring! She is a grade sooty buckskin filly who has had a lot of love so far and I can't wait for her to move to the barn in May. Currently, she lives a bit too far to be able to visit too often so that is something to look forward to. Here is a pic taken this winter:

Also a baby pic, so cute!

In model releated news, I just finished a replica of the Stubben Imperator saddle:

I have also tackled SM scale tack:
